- Select a course at a UK university or college that holds a valid Student sponsor licence from the Home Office (check the UKVI register).
Meet Eligibility Requirements
- Hold a confirmed place at a licensed Student sponsor
- Be 16 or over
- Meet the English language requirement (IELTS Academic / UKVI-approved test)
- Show you can support yourself financially during your studies
Receive CAS from Your University
- Your university will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) — a unique 14-character reference number required for your visa application.
Prove Financial Requirements
- Show funds covering your full course fees plus £1,334/month (up to 9 months) for living costs in London, or £1,023/month outside London
- Funds must be held for at least 28 consecutive days before applying
Gather Required Documents
- Valid passport, CAS number, financial evidence (bank statements)
- Academic transcripts & English language test results (IELTS/PTE)
- ATAS clearance certificate (if required for your subject)
- Tuberculosis (TB) test results if applying from a listed country
Apply Online (UK Visas & Immigration)
- Submit your Student visa application on the UKVI website — up to 6 months before your course starts (3 months if applying outside the UK).
- Pay the visa application fee (£490 for study in the UK) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (£776/year).
Book Biometrics Appointment
- Book and attend an appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre (VAC) in your country to give fingerprints and a photograph.
- You may also need to submit your passport at this stage.
Receive Visa & Travel to the UK
- Once approved, you'll get a vignette sticker valid for 30 days to enter the UK.
- Collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) within 10 days of arrival — this is your actual visa document.
