Overview
The UK Skilled Worker visa replaced the Tier 2 (General) visa in December 2020. It is a points-based system requiring 70 points: a job offer from an approved UK employer (20 pts), job at or above required skill level (20 pts), and English language (10 pts). Additional points come from salary level, shortage occupation, and PhD qualifications.
✓70 points required from a combination of mandatory and tradeable criteria
✓Job must be on the eligible occupations list
✓Minimum salary: £26,200/year or going rate (whichever is higher)
✓Shortage occupations may have lower salary thresholds
✓Lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 5 years
✓Dependants can accompany or join you
Eligibility Requirements
- ✓Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from a licensed UK employer
- ✓Job must be at RQF Level 3 or above
- ✓Salary: at least £26,200 or the going rate for the role
- ✓English language: B1 CEFR minimum
- ✓Enough personal savings: £1,270 held for 28 consecutive days
- ✓Pass the points threshold (70 points total)
