Overview
Introduced in 2024 under Germany's Skilled Immigration Act reform, the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) uses a points system to let skilled workers from non-EU countries enter Germany for up to one year to look for a job. Points are awarded for qualifications, language skills, work experience, age, and connection to Germany.

✓Can work part-time (up to 20 hrs/week) while searching
✓No prior job offer needed for initial entry
✓Can be extended or converted once job is secured

Eligibility Requirements
- ✓Recognised vocational or university qualification (equivalent to German standards)
- ✓OR: German university or qualified vocational qualification + 2 years experience + German B1 language
- ✓Minimum 6 points from the points matrix
- ✓Sufficient financial means to support yourself (approx. €1,027/month)
- ✓Health insurance coverage for the duration of stay
- ✓Clean criminal record
